Practical Support Tips

As an employer, you send a clear message to your employees and community with a tobacco-free work policy:  you care about the health and safety of your employees.  It’s the right thing to do, and your support and care can make it happen.

Here are some ideas you can use today:

  • Employers can save an average of $1,300 in lost productivity and health costs for each employee who quits smoking
  • Invite your local health department to visit and educate your employees on the benefits of a tobacco-free workplace
  • Place articles in your employee newsletter or include an insert in paychecks about the health effects of secondhand smoke
  • Inform employees of any cessation benefits available through your company health plan
  • Show support by removing ashtrays and matches, placing ‘No Smoking’ signs in break areas, and publicizing the Utah Tobacco Quit Line or UtahQuitNet.com
  • Encourage employees to consider quitting as a group
